MORE THAN JUST A MEAL

nancyputtingmealsinfreezer.jpg

Nancy a volunteer delivery driver comes in every Thursday to deliver home bound frozen meals to the outlying areas.

Lee is Nancy's husband, and they are a dedicated team in helping alleviate the hunger of our Shasta County seniors.

A nutritious meal is served Monday through Friday to seniors aged 60 or older who are homebound due to an illness or physical disability and have no one to prepare a meal for them.  The meals are approved by a registered dietician and meet 1/3 of the recommended daily dietary allowance.

Meals on Wheels is much more than just a meal.  It is a daily human contact on which seniors who are homebound and alone much of the time may rely.  It is a sense of security knowing that someone will come, that someone cares.

Customers receiving home delivered meals are asked to make a suggested contribution of $3.00 per meal.  The actual cost per meal is over $6.00.  Qualified customers will not be denied meals based on ability to contribute.
